How to use MintGuard in three steps

Quick answer

Put one MintGuard ball at each place rodents could get in or travel: under the sink, behind the cooker and fridge, by the boiler, at the loft hatch and in the garage or car. Replace each ball after 30 to 60 days.

Setting up MintGuard takes about 20 minutes. Here's where each ball goes.

Step by step

  1. 1Find the ways in. Look for gaps around pipes under the sink, behind the cooker and washing machine, around the boiler flue, at the loft hatch and under doors to the garage.
  2. 2Place one ball at each spot. Put a ball on a flat surface at each gap or along the wall where rodents would run. Keep balls out of reach of children and pets.
  3. 3Cover the outbuildings. Add balls in the garage corners, the shed and the engine bay of the car, away from hot parts and moving belts.
  4. 4Note the date. Write the date on your calendar or phone so you know when to swap.
  5. 5Swap after 30 to 60 days. Replace each ball with a fresh one. Warm, draughty spots run out sooner.

How many balls do I need?

  • Flat or small house: 4 to 6 balls
  • Three-bedroom house: 6 to 8 balls
  • House plus loft and garage: 10 to 12 balls
  • House, garage, shed and car: 2 packs or more

Where not to put MintGuard

  • On food preparation surfaces or in food cupboards next to open food
  • Anywhere a pet or child can reach or chew it
  • On hot parts of a car engine
  • In rooms with pet rabbits, guinea pigs or hamsters

Tips for the best results

MintGuard works best alongside simple proofing. Seal gaps around pipes with wire wool, fit brush strips to garage doors and store food, pet food and bird seed in sealed containers.

Common questions

Do I need to open the balls or wet them?

No. Take each ball out of the pouch and place it. There's nothing to mix, wet or plug in.

How do I know when to replace a ball?

When the mint smell has faded completely, usually after 30 to 60 days. If in doubt, swap it.
